A CITY FLAT in Berlin

When it came to furnishing a three-bedroom flat in Berlin, architare was given carte blanche design freedom. Barbara Benz and her team had previously served the client with the furnishing of his villa at Wannsee and once again, architare delivered an overall concept. This time, the interior design professionals combined elegant furniture by Walter Knoll, B&B Italia, Schramm and Porro with spectacular wallpaper by Tecnografica and producing a custom-made kitchen that can be discreetly hidden behind folding wall panels.

“Carte Blanche” for the architare team

"It's great when a client puts their faith in us giving us a free hand in designing a property," says Katharina Schott, who works as a project manager at architare in Nagold. "On the other hand, we knew that our client had very high demands as we had previously implemented the complete furnishing concept for his villa at Wannsee.

This time, the client wanted a complete design for his 26-year-old son's apartment in Charlottenburg,  starting with the kitchen and including the complete furnishing of the bedroom, living room and dining room, right down to the bed linen, glasses and crockery. "At the presentation, we showed our client two completely elaborated designs," Katharina Schott says, "With the living world in elegant, urban shades of grey, our team had hit his taste right away."

The finest custom work: the Hidden Kitchen

The highlight of the 80-square-metre flat is the custom-made kitchen. It can disappear completely behind folding sliding doors. The advantage of this is that the kitchen does not have to be always kept immaculately tidy. If you take a seat at the elegant Seito dining table by Walter Knoll after cooking, you don't look at used pots, instead you gaze at elegantly designed wooden wall.
Nothing else was left to chance in the furnishing of the flat. Every detail of the furnishings was carefully coordinated. The wooden surfaces go hand in hand with the brown leather and dark blue velvet upholstery of the furnishings.

The father met the son's taste exactly …

But in the end, how did the son like the furnishing concept commissioned by his father? "He was absolutely thrilled," says Katharina Schott. "He especially liked the 'gambler's room', as he calls his living room, furnished with an oversized sofa. Until now he had lived in 15 square metres in a shared flat, now he finally has space for game nights with his friends."
