When Mercedes-AMG commissioned the architare team to furnish the new staff restaurant at its Affalterbach site the ultimate goal was creating a space for their highly valued staff to feel relaxed comfortable and happy in a beautifully ambient space. The new space offers 200 additional seats for dining, a rooftop outdoor terrace and a cafeteria on the first floor. Also the space is a fantastic go-to meeting point and the heart of the AMG site in Affalterbach, where some 1,700 employees work.
Fine tuning for the new cafeteria of MERCEDES-AMG
Relaxed lounge atmosphere
In the newly created space, employees from different departments can meet and network with each other. The AMG project team wanted a spacious lounge area to deliver such a need so the ever creative architare team created a living island for this purpose in the middle of the cafeteria with a dynamic feature incorporating a green wall of plants and furnishings that differ from the clear business environment. The leather sofas, modern chandeliers and fluffy carpets are reminiscent of an elegantly furnished home and this style is further emphasized by the high level feel-good quality of the furnishings.
Let's meet for a coffee sometime!
When designing the cafeteria, the architare team was inspired by gastronomy concepts that appeal to a young, urban target group. Black walls with long wooden tables and cool designer lamps feature In this ambient space. Employees can meet not only for coffee during the break, but also for a meeting in between appointments or for an extended departmental meeting in the afternoon. Adapting to the various uses possible for the space, the architare furnishing team created different settings to accommodate these possible needs by utilizing bistro tables for individuals and groups of two or long wooden tables and benches for team meetings.

Cool black meets warm wood and fresh greenery
Seating for 200, the voluminous restaurant exudes a modern feel-good atmosphere. When it came to the seating the AMG team wanted "a chair that is not seen everywhere", so the ever savvy architare team suggested the "Pair" model by Fritz Hansen. By combining veneer and black plastic, "Pair" blends harmoniously with the furnishings of the space. The greenery has a fresh nature like effect that can be utilized as a room divider or hanging from the ceiling. The purposefully used plants provide a wonderful calming mood, at the same time improving the room climate and air quality. Another non-visual benefit of incorporating such a green feature in a large room like the AMG dining facility is the plants has a sound-absorbing effect to provide an overall less rowdy ambience.

Prime location: a lounge for special events
Perhaps the most wonderful highlight of the new building in Affalterbach is the outdoor lounge terrace on the top floor. It is available to employees for events and special meetings. One can take a seat at the bar or in one of the many Healy Lounge Chairs by Walter Knoll, a lounge chair designed to pay homage to the seats of the legendary Classic Cars. What could be a better aesthetic synergy for the high-performance vehicles produced by the refinement artist Mercedes-AMG!
