Inspiration for the redesign: a mood painting by Walter Knoll
After more than 20 years in their own house, the owners wanted to redesign their living room. The starting point was an atmospheric picture by Walter Knoll showing the elegant "Onsa Chair" and the "Living Landscape" sofa in front of walnut paneling.
However at the on-site appointment the architare team found that the living room could not be viewed separately. The reason for this being that the living room flowed smoothly into the kitchen and dining room on the open-plan ground floor. In addition, the timeless elegance that was now desired did not fit in with the rest of the furnishings, which over the years design classics had been added to farmhouse furniture along with collections of antique clocks, porcelain figurines and modern art. The result was a loving mix of styles, but the interior lacked a common thread.
For more peace and clarity, architare developed a consistent overall concept.
Under the direction of Barbara Benz, Van Quynh Le-Bierichein, a member of the architare team in Stuttgart, developed a cohesive overall concept that corresponded to the individuality of the architecture as well as to the personal wishes of the clients and in doing so, the interior designer was inspired by the design ideas of the Walter Knoll picture, but also designed some rooms in a completely new way.
"We want to create rooms that are functional. Where the residents can do what they love to do," explains Van Quynh Le-Bierich. "That's why we also eliminated the spa in the basement, which had only been used twice in over 20 years. The space was redesigned and turned into a home theatre." Furnished with blue velvet curtains, soft carpets including Patricia Urquiola's freely combinable "Tufty Time" sofa as well as a foosball table and the bar cabinet by Riva 1920, the result was an elegant lounge cinema but also a cool vibrant party venue.
The furnishing of the dining area also fits in with the desire to have enough space for large social gatherings. The centrepiece is the imposing "Tadeo" dining table, which was custom-made in the Walter Knoll workshops. It can be extended to a length of 360 centimetres that can accommodate up to 16 people easily being seated around it.
"WE WANT TO CREATE SPACES THAT ARE FUNCTIONAL. WHERE RESIDENTS CAN DO WHAT THEY LOVE TO DO."
An elegant setting in which designer furniture by Walter Knoll, Moroso and Rimadesio occupy prominent places.
The furnishings are tailored to the respective needs of the residents. At the same time appearing elegant and harmonious but also incredibly inspiring. Defining this is the choice of colours, materials and fabrics but also the arrangement and composition of the furniture.
Walnut wall panels form an atmospheric background on all floors. Ceilings and walls shine in white. The curtains are in soft beige, giving the interior a pleasant light ambience
Against this neutral yet very elegant backdrop, designer furniture such as the blue velvet "Chamfer" sofa by Patricia Urquiola, the "Zenit" bookshelf by Rimadesio or the gently curved "Bao" armchairs and the casually elegant "Jaan Living" leather sofa by Walter Knoll take prominent positions in the space. This creates rooms that radiate calm but also dynamism and excitement giving the long-term effect of inspiration!
"THE STRINGENT ENTIRE CONCEPT AND THE BALANCED COLOR AND MATERIAL DESIGN PROVIDE CALMNESS AND CLARITY."
It is in the Making: Planning and execution
When a house is being completely redesigned, it is often very difficult to imagine the planned furnishings. The 3D visualisations that architare made for all of the rooms in the house illustrated the designs realistically and barely differed from the final result.
The clients were enthusiastic about the design concepts from the very first presentation and placed the order for the redesign of the entire house, including the kitchen, which architare produced together with the Steininger company.
architare also took over the artistic construction management, supervised the individual construction phases and was the contact for all trades for the entire project.
