CHAIR
SUPERLEGGERA 699
GIO PONTI

1957

The Superleggera 699 by Gio Ponti was designed in 1957 and took its name from the Milanese architect's desire to create the lightest chair possible . An ambitious project that would keep him busy for almost a decade. With a maximum thickness of eighteen millimeters, this chair is incredibly light, weighing just 1.7 kilograms. Gio Ponti chose ash wood as the material, which gave the chair not only its light weight but also strength. For its innovative design, the Superleggera 699 received a nomination for the prestigious Compasso d' Oro Design Award in Italy in 1957.
