The Bertoia 420 Chair, designed in 1952 by Harry Bertoia, an Italian-American artist and designer who created the chair as part of a series of furniture made from steel wire. The Bertoia is made of a chrome-plated steel frame and a seat and backrest made of a multitude of curved, closely spaced steel wires. The chair's slim and lightweight construction conveys a feeling of openness and airyness. Bertoia is also an example of the artistic approach to furniture design, showing sensitivity to materials, shapes and textures.
