Design icons such as the Barcelona Chair by Mies van der Rohe, the Wassily Chair by Marcel Breuer and the Saarinen table founded the global success of Knoll International and are considered milestones in the history of modern furniture design.
Knoll International – legendary design classics
KNOLL INTERNATIONAL – Ddesign classics and Bauhaus icons
Hans Knoll and his wife Florence Knoll laid the foundation for the success story of Knoll International. Together they shaped the furniture design of the last century. The couple knew many of the Bauhaus architects and encouraged emerging talent within the company. The furniture by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Eero Saarinen, Harry Bertoia and also Florence Knoll's own designs achieved great international recognition. Furniture from Knoll International is just as in demand today as it was back then. They are timeless and impress with their high quality and identity.
BARCELONA CHAIR – Mies van der Rohe ’s masterpiece
The Bauhaus architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe designed the Barcelona Chair in 1929 for the German pavilion at the World Exhibition in Barcelona. The masterpiece with the iconic scissor legs is still produced today according to the original specifications and is a sought-after classic - both for the modern living area as well as for offices and reception rooms.
WASSILY CHAIR – Bauhaus classic by Marcel Breuer
The Wassily Chair also made furniture history. Designed by Marcel Breuer at the Bauhaus in 1926, the armchair still makes the hearts of purists beat faster today. The elaborately shaped frame is made of chrome-plated tubular steel and combined with a leather covering that forms the seat and back surface.
SARINEN TABLE AND TULIP CHAIR – “Against the miserable mess of legs”
In the 1950s, Finnish architect and designer Eero Saarinen designed the first chair with just one leg. The “Tulip Chair” is one of a series of chairs and tables in different sizes, all of which are characterized by the central support foot. With this formal unity, Saarinen wanted to “do away with the miserable tangle of legs.“
PLANTER TABLE AND ARMCHAIR – Timelessly elegant to this day
In the mid 1960s, Warren Platner developed a collection for Knoll International consisting of various tables and chairs. The hallmarks are the steel wires welded together, which give the Platner collection its characteristic look. The Platner tables and chairs are not only suitable for furnishing your dining and living room, they also attract attention in conference rooms and lounge areas.
