THE ADJUSTABLE TABLE E 1027 – and other design classics by Eileen Gray
“To be creative, you first have to question everything,” said Irish designer and architect Eileen Gray, who designed one of the most popular design icons of the 20th century with her “Adjustable Table E 1027”.
However, ClassiCon alone is the legal, worldwide licensee of Gray's design heritage. In addition to the legendary “Adjustable Table E 1027”, the ClassiCon range also includes the designer’s “Bibendum” armchair and “Day Bed”.
Every Eileen Gray piece of furniture from ClassiCon is marked and serial numbered, so you can distinguish original furniture from a fake.
OLIVER HOLY – design lover and CEO-ClassiCon
The mastermind behind ClassiCon's success is Oliver Holy: Hugo Boss's great-grandson and design lover joined the company, which was founded in 1990, in 1999 with his law degree, so to speak as a career changer. From the beginning, ClassiCon focused on the tension between classics and modernity.
Over the last 25 years, Holy has discovered numerous designers who later celebrated great international success - including Konstantin Grcic and Sebastian Herkner. When it comes to choosing which designers fit into the program, Holy says there's a lot of subjectivity involved.
“It's not love at first sight. More like enthusiasm at third glance. The first glance usually looks for the familiar, the familiar, the things we have seen before. But if you want to develop design with the potential to become a classic, you have to work on the still unseen, on forms that will come and stay.“
THE BELL TABLE SERIE – by Sebastian Herkner
Sebastian Herkner is one of the most famous German designers of his generation. In 2012, ClassiCon released its “Bell Table”, which turns the usual on its head: instead of mounting a glass plate on a metal frame, as is usual, a heavy copper plate rests on a light, colored glass base. In 2020, ClassiCon launched the Bell Table as a dining table.
TILL DOLDBERGS CHAIR AËRIAS –New design in traditional Viennese weave
Tilla Goldberg, member of the management board of the Ippolito Fleitz Group, has expanded the ClassiCon collection with two more ingenious designs: the “Pegasus” desk and the “A ë rias” chair and lounge chair. The “A ë rias” chair puts the familiar in a surprising new way: the familiar Viennese weave is enlarged as if in a macro shot and made of leather.
CLASSICON NEW PRODUCTS – Corker by Herzog & de Meuron and the table series by Guilherme Torres
In 2018, the Brazilian Guilherme Torres presents three new tables of casual elegance with the “Bow Coffee Table”. In 2022, the Brazilian architect and designer complemented the coffee table series with the rectangular Bow Coffee Table No. 6. In 2022, the Corker, created from a joint production between the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei and the architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron, went into series production at ClassiCon.
